Singer-songwriter known for his acoustic guitar-based folk rock songs. He first gained attention for his 2001 debut album Brushfire Fairytales. His best known songs include "Upside Down," "Better Together," and "Banana Pancakes."
He graduated with a degree in film from UC Santa Barbara. He was inspired to pursue music after listening to Jimi Hendrix.
In 2006, he was nominated for two Grammy Awards: Best Male Pop Vocal Performance and Best Pop Collaboration with Vocals.
He married his college sweetheart Kim Johnson on July 22, 2000. The couple has three children together.
He featured Ben Harper on the song "With My Own Two Hands," from his 2006 album Sing-A-Longs and Lullabies for the Film Curious George.
