Peruvian Lawyer and Politician who served as President of Peru from 1985 to 1990 and again from 2006 to 2011. He was blamed for both social unrest and environmental damage in his country.
He was raised in Lima, Peru in the Roman Catholic faith.
His first term was marked by a severe economic crisis, social unrest, and violence. His second, however, saw Peru averaging seven percent financial growth per year.
He married his second wife Pilar Nores in 1978. He has five children, Carla, Alan, Josefina, Gabriela, and Luciana.
In 2011, he was succeeded in office by Ollanta Humala.
