First known as the father of international pop star Jewel, he later garnered his own fame starring on the Discovery Channel series Alaska: The Last Frontier.
His parents, Yule and Ruth, migrated to the United States to escape the effects of World War II. He was born the oldest male of eight children.
A range-rider, it has been his job to protect his brother's cattle against a range of Alaskan wildlife, from bears to wolves and coyotes.
He and his wife Bonnie have four children, Shane, Jewel, Atz Lee, and Nikos.
