Former Astronaut and U.S. Air Force Colonel who piloted the Space Shuttle Columbia in 1983.
He studied engineering mechanics at the University of Wisconsin–Madison in 1968.
He joined NASA in 1979 after Service in the U.S. Air Force.
He married and had three children.
He and fellow pilot Michael Coats were both members of NASA Astronaut Group 8 in 1978.
