Daniel Mate was born on 1963 in Kanton Schwyz, Switzerland, Spain. Daniel Mate broke into the ranks of the world's billionaires when global commodities trading outfit Glencore went public in 2011. The Spaniard holds a 3% stake in the London-listed company. Mate joined Marc Rich & Co. in 1988 in Switzerland, six years before the firm was bought out by management and rebranded as Glencore. He rose to co-directing the zinc, copper and lead commodity department in 2000 and now runs the zinc trading unit. He's also a longtime director at Peruvian mining company Volcan and owns a number of properties around Madrid.
