Esther Koplowitz was born on August 10, 1953 in Spain. Esther Koplowitz inherited Spanish construction company Fomento de Construcciones y Contratas (FCC) from her late father, Ernesto. Koplowitz serves as vice president of the company, which has undergone a major restructuring since its revenues and stock began a steady and steep decline in 2007 amid the global financial crisis and Spain's economic woes. Esther and her sister Alicia, a billionaire, ran FCC operations jointly from 1989 until 1997 when Esther bought her sister's stake for $800 million. Carlos Slim bought a 25% stake in the company in 2014; Esther now holds 22%, down from 48%. Her daughter, Alicia Alcocer Koplowitz, was appointed chairwoman of subsidiary Cementos Portland Valderrivas in May 2015. Her other daughter Esther Alcocer Koplowitz, is chairwoman of FCC Group. Esther has a private art collection that includes works by Francisco Goya and Camille Pissarro. Esther and Alicia inherited their noble titles from their mother. Esther was the Countess of Peñalver and Marquise of Campo Florido, titles now owned by her two daughters Carmen Alcocer y Koplowitz (now Countess of Peñalver) and Alicia Alcocer y Koplowitz (now marquise of Campo Florido). Her sister Alicia is the Marquesa de Bellavista. In 2003 Esther Koplowitz married Fernando Falcó, Marquis of Cubas, whom she divorced in 2009.
