Wife of Walter Mondale, the forty-second Vice-President of the United States. While serving as Second Lady, she turned the Vice Presidential Mansion into a showcase of American art and was affectionately given the nickname of "Joan of Art."
She graduated from Macalester College and worked at the Boston Museum of Fine Arts and Minneapolis Institute of Art.
She met her husband on a blind date set up by a fellow classmate.
She and Walter Mondale had three children, Theodore, Eleanor and william.
Her husband served as Vice President under Jimmy Carter while Jimmy's wife Rosalynn served as First Lady.
