Known best for his role as Prince Yunti in the 2010 to 2011 Chinese television series Scarlet Heart, Gengxin also played major roles in a number of action and adventure films, including The Taking of Tiger Mountain and Black & White: The Dawn of Justice.
After training at the Shanghai Theatre Academy in the first decade of the 2000s, he played a small role in the 2009 film The Blue Cornflower.
He received a Sohu Drama Festival Award for his performance in Scarlet Heart.
He was born and raised in the city of Shen Yang in China's Liaoning province.
He and South Korean actor Kim Bum were both in the cast of the 2010 film Young Detective Dee: Rise of the Sea Dragon.
