Republican politician who represented Arizona in the US House of Representatives from 1995 to 2001 before being elected again in 2013.
He was elected to the Arizona Senate in the 21st Senate District in 1991 with 60% of the vote.
In April 2013, he announced that he would continue to oppose same-sex marriage even though his son, who he loves and supports, is openly gay.
He has four children with his wife Nancy.
In 2002, he lost to Janet Napolitano in a highly competitive governor's race.
