Three time Academy Award winning Director of Photography for the films Oliver!, Fiddler on the Roof, and The Wiz who was also praised by The British Academy of Film and Television Arts.
He first became intrigued by film while working as a projectionist at a local cinema. His first film as a Cinematographer was for Golden Salamander.
He worked on movies such as the 1952 version of Moulin Rouge and the 1972 version of Dracula.
He was born in Ruislip and died in Dorset, England.
He frequently collaborated with Director John Huston.
