Born with the titles of Princess Beatrix Wilhelmina Armgard of the Netherlands, Princess of Lippe-Biesterfeld, and Princess of Orange-Nassau, she became Queen of the Netherlands in 1980 and reigned until 2013.
In her early adulthood, she studied law, economics, and sociology at Leiden University.
During a 2009 parade, she and her family members became the targets of an attack that killed seven bystanders.
Her marriage to German-born diplomat Claus von Amsberg began in 1966 and resulted in three children: Princes Johan Friso and Constantijn and the Future King Willem-Alexander.
Her mother, Queen Juliana of the Netherlands, ruled from 1948 until 1980.
