German midfielder who led Dortmudn to back-to-back DFL-Supercup titles in 2013 and 2014. He previously won the UEFA European Under-19 Championship representing Germany in 2008.
He was born in Rosenheim, West Germany and played for TSV Brannenburg at just four years old.
The Bayern Munich squad he defeated to win the 2013 DFL-Supercup title included his twin brother Lars Bender.
His brother Lars has also competed for Germany internationally. His parents are Hartmut and Sabine Bender.
He has been teammates with centre back Mat Hummels on Borussia Dortmund.
