The bulk of Vincent Lo's fortune stems from his listed Shui On Land, best known for developing Shanghai's entertainment district, Xintiandi. Lo also owns Shui On Centre, a landmark building in Wan Chai. His daughter Stephanie is heir apparent. He's also no stranger to the temperament of fellow real estate tycoon Donald Trump, who in 2005 sued former partners Lo and Henry Cheng for $1 billion, claiming the two had not consulted him and closed on a deal for less than he would have. Trump lost but was granted proceeds from another deal with the partners.

Biography/Timeline

1984

In 1984, Lo began investing in Shanghai and built a hotel in partnership with the Shanghainese Communist Youth League. The Tiananmen Square crisis caused occupancy to plunge, and the league could not repay its construction loan. Lo assisted the league in dealing with the loan: Han Zheng was the Youth League secretary at the time, and is now mayor of Shanghai.

1995

In 1995, he bought his first cement plant in Chongqing, which has enabled the Shui On Group to become one of China's top three cement companies. Under Lo's direction, the Shui On Group is carrying out property development projects in other Chinese cities, such as Wuhan, Dalian, Foshan and Hangzhou, as well as Chongqing.
