Innovator and Business leader who helped grow the Intel Corporation into one of the largest and most influential Technology companies in the world. He was named Time's Person of the Year in 1997 for his contributions to growth and proliferation of microchips.
After fleeing from Hungary during the revolution of 1956, he came to the US with little money and unable to speak English. He proceeded to graduate from the City College of New York with a degree in chemical engineering, then received a Ph.D in the subject from UC Berkley.
He was the first person hired by Intel co-founders Robert Noyce and Gordon Moore. He was diagnosed with Parkinson's in 2000 and contributed significantly to foundations dedicated to finding a cure. He died on March 21, 2016 of unspecified causes.
He was born András István Gróf, but anglicized his name upon reaching the US. He married Eva Kastan in 1958 and remained married until his death. The couple had two children. During his own childhood, Grove's family was forced to go into hiding during the Nazi occupation of Hungary.
