Designer of the iconic I.G. Farben building in Frankfurt, Germany. He designed the set for "The Golem: How He Came Into the World," the 1920 UFA film production.
He was named Teacher and Director at the Breslau Academy of Art and Design in 1903. He served as city Architect of Dresden and was a member of the Deutscher Werkbund.
He redesigned the interior of the Berlin Crosses Schauspielhaus in 1919 at the request of impresario Max Reinhardt.
His mother, the Countess Clara Henrietta Maria Poelzig, was unsure of his paternity, so her husband at the time, Englishman George Acland Ames, refused to acknowledge him as his son; he was, therefore, raised by a choirmaster. He married Maria Voss in 1899 and had four children.
He was born in the same country as Albert Einstein.
