Jayme Garfinkel was born on November 30, 1945 in Sao Paulo, Brazil, Brazil. Jayme Brasil Garfinkel is chairman and the biggest shareholder of insurance giant Porto Seguro. Garfinkel's family bought Porto Seguro in 1972 and he took a job at the company as a director's assistant. Six years later, after his father's death, he became the firm's vice president. He took the company public in November 2004 and was its CEO from 2006 to 2012. Porto Seguro boasts more than 15,000 employees. Itau Unibanco, Latin America's largest bank owns about 30% of Porto Seguro. Garfinkel has supported the creation and maintenance of schools for young children in favelas, or shantytowns, around Sao Paulo, supporting over 50,000 students.

1970

Garfinkel received a degree in Civil Engineering from the Polytechnic School of the University of São Paulo in 1970 and completed graduate studies in Business Administration at Getúlio Vargas College in 1975. He joined Porto Seguro in 1972 as an Assistant Executive Officer, assuming the role of Executive Officer Vice President of Porto Seguro in 1978. Currently, he is Chairman of the Board and the Chief Executive Officer of Porto Seguro, Porto Seguro Vida, Azul Seguros and Porto Seguro Saúde.

1987

Garfinkel was a member of CNSP from 1987 until 1991, and was President of the Syndicate of Private Insurance and Capitalization Companies of the State of São Paulo from 1989 to 1990. Currently, he is a member of the Fenaseg's Consulting Committee (Federação Nacional de Seguros Gerais).
