Actor who appeared in Dressed to Kill and Christine and made his directorial debut with The Chocolate War in 1988, and worked on Dexter from 2006 to 2010. He was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award for Best Screenplay in 1992 for A Midnight Clear.
He grew up in New York City. Early in his career, he appeared in the 1978 film, Jaws 2. The following year he appeared in the film version of All that Jazz.
