Striker who joined the Pohang Steelers' senior ranks in 1998 and was voted the K-League Rookie of the Year that season and was the league's MVP the following year.
He played youth soccer for the Pohang Steelers.
He joined the South Korean national team in 1998.
He married 1997 Miss Korea Lee Soo-Jin in December of 2005. He has five children, Jae-ah, Jae-si, Seol-ah, Soo-ah and Si-ahn.
Midfielder Park Ji-Sung was his teammate on the South Korean national team.
