Best known for helping raise NFL lineman Michael Oher, whom her family adopted after he was neglected by his birth parents. She was featured in Michael Lewis' book The Blind Side: Evolution of a Game and portrayed by Sandra Bullock in the 2009 film The Blind Side, which earned Bullock an Academy Award.
She graduated from the University of Mississippi in the early 1980s. At Ole Miss, she was a member of the cheerleading team and also joined the Kappa Delta sorority.
She and her husband became owners of more than 93 fast food franchises, are the New York Times bestselling authors of In a Heartbeat, and are the founders of The Making it Happen Foundation.
She married Sean Tuohy, and, together, the couple raised a daughter named Collins, a son named Sean Jr., and their adopted son, Michael Oher.
In the 2009 film The Blind Side, her husband Sean was played by country singer Tim McGraw.
