During the last decade of the 20th Century and the first two decades of the 21st Century, this Democratic Party Politician served Texas' thirty-fifth, twenty-fifth, and tenth districts in the United States Congress. Before serving in the U.S. House of Representatives, he was a member of both the Texas State Senate and the Texas Supreme Court.
He received both his undergraduate degree and his J.D. from the University of Texas at Austin.
He served in the House of Representatives' Subcommittees on Trade, Human Resources, and Social Security.
He was raised in Austin, Texas in a family of the Methodist faith. He married Libby Doggett.
While in the House of Representatives, he allied himself with fellow Democrat Nancy Pelosi.
