Known best for his Toriko and Seikimatsu Leader den Takeshi manga series, he was the recipient of both Akatsuka and Shogakukan Manga Awards. His famous Toriko cartoons inspired a 2011 Japanese anime television series.
In 1996, he published his first work, Seikimatsu Leader den Takeshi, in a Japanese manga publication called Weekly Shonen Jump.
In the early 2000s, he penned a three-volume, sports-themed manga titled Ring.
He was born and raised in Naha, Japan (the capital of the Okinawa Prefecture).
With his friend and fellow manga Artist, Eiichiro Oda, he created a 2011 crossover-story manga titled Taste of the Devil Fruit.
