Politician and Democrat who became the first African American mayor of Seattle, Washington in 1989. He made an unsuccessful bid to be Governor of Washington in 1996.
He received his Masters in Public Administration from the University of Washington in Seattle.
He made a guest appearance as himself on an episode of Frasier in 1997.
He married his wife, Dr. Constance Williams, in 1975.
He was nominated, in 2010, as a member of the White House Council for Community Solutions, which was created by Executive Order of President Barack Obama.
