Born Princess Wilhelmine in Potsdam, Prussia (modern-day Germany), she assumed the title of Wilhelmine of Prussia, Queen of the Netherlands following her marriage to King william I of the Netherlands. She ruled from 1815 until her death in 1837.
Her 1791 arranged marriage to her cousin william was a very happy union, despite the fact that, in the early years of their marriage, the royals were forced into exile in England, Prussia, and Poland.
A patron of the arts and an amateur Artist, she was made an honorary member of the Royal Academy of Fine Arts.
She and her seven siblings were the children of Queen Frederica Louisa and King Frederick william II of Prussia. Her marriage to King william I produced two sons and two daughters.
She and Queen Juliana, born over a century apart, were both members of Dutch royalty.
