Rugby union coach and former player who won the Super 14 title with the Crusaders in 2008. He coached Australia internationally from 2008 to 2013, coming in third at the 2011 Rugby World Cup.
He was a first five-eighth at Christ's College, Christchurch.
He won the Bledisloe Cup and Tri-Nations titles as an assistant with the All Blacks in 2003.
His brother is former rugby union player Bruce Deans.
He was succeeded as the coach of the Australian national team by Ewen McKenzie in 2013.
