Flight Engineer of the historic STS-60 mission, the first joint space mission for Russia and the United States.
He earned his PhD in electrical engineering from the University of Colorado at Boulder in 1982.
His second trip to space was as a crew member of STS-76, the third mission to dock with the Mir Space Station.
He married fellow Astronaut Bonnie J. Dunbar.
