Scottish soccer manager who won multiple league titles as an assistant coach with Chelsea before landing his first head coaching gig with West Bromwich Albion in 2012. As a player, he was named Chelsea Player of the Year in 1994.
He began his professional playing career with St. Mirren in 1982 after playing for Beith Juniors. He began playing for the Scottish Under-21 squad in 1983.
In 2015, he managed Reading FC to its first FA Cup semi-final in 88 years.
He was born in Saltcoats, Scotland. He has been married.
He has coached Welsh defender Chris Gunter at Reading FC.
