His passion for music was apparent at an early age. He taught himself to play chords and scales on the piano when he was just 4 years old.
He is a 2008 graduate of Cotter High School, where he was involved in choir, band, show choir, jazz band, and musicals. He graduated with a degree in Communications from the University of Minnesota.
He was born in Winona, Minnesota to retired Lewiston Altura band Teacher Gene Olstad and Winona area Catholic schools music Teacher Julie Olstad.
