Writer and Journalist whose novel, Ironweed, won the 1984 Pulitzer Prize for Fiction. His other well-known works include The Ink Truck (1969), Legs (1975), Billy Phelan's Greatest Game (1978), and Roscoe (2002).
He attended Siena College in New York and later lived in Puerto Rico after serving in the U.S. Army.
He is also known for his Albany Cycle book series.
He was raised in a Catholic family in Albany, New York. In 1957, he married Ana Segarra; together, they had three children.
He was a longtime friend of author Hunter S. Thompson . Early in his career, Kennedy was also mentored by author Saul Bellow.
