After changing her name from Yvonne Joseph to Yvonne Mitchell, she started acting on stage. She made her film debut in 1949 on The Queen of Spades.
She was also a Writer and one of her works was a biography on French Writer, Colette.
She was married to Derek Monsey from 1952 until his death in 1979.
She appeared in the 1953 film based on Emily Bronte's novel Wuthering Heights.
