Bosnian author who kept a diary of her childhood observations of the horrors of the Siege of Sarajevo. Her work, Zlata's Diary, was published in 1993.
She wrote her now-famous diary from 1991-1993, when she was between the ages of ten and thirteen.
After graduating from the University of Oxford, she worked in Dublin as a documentary filmmaker.
During the Bosnian War, she and her family escaped Sarajevo and settled temporarily in Paris, France.
She has been called a Bosnian version of World War II-era Jewish diarist Anne Frank.
