Retired pitcher who had a stint with the Philadelphia Phillies from 1960 to 1965, and later with the St. Louis Cardinals in 1966. He was known for his right-handed batting and throwing style. Over the course of his seven-year MLB career, he achieved a record of 59 wins and 64 losses, accumulating 639 strikeouts, with an earned run average of 4.17, covering a total of 999.0 innings pitched.
After graduating from Western Hills High School in Cincinnati, Ohio, he caught the attention of the Philadelphia Phillies, who signed him as an amateur free agent on June 29, 1956. This marked the start of his journey in Minor League Baseball, as he embarked on his professional career that summer.
In 1962 he achieved a rare distinction by becoming the last pitcher to strike out a minimum of 12 batters and hitting a grand slam in a single game.
He is from Cincinnati, Ohio. He married his High School classmate Kathryn Ann "Kathy" Hollenbach in March 1957. The couple had a son and a daughter together. He now resides in Allentown, Pennsylvania.
