They moved to Canada when she was very young so even though she has a British passport she considers herself a Canadian. She went to school in Toronto and grew up around the High Park area. She worked as a model in her teens but was not really that good at it. She did some runway shows (as she was already 6ft tall at 16), a bit of magazine work and some commercials. Claire has done a lot of traveling. She speaks German and spent most of her summers in a town outside of Cologne in Germany (with her beloved grandmother Kai), after whom she named her production company, Kai Productions. She settled down for two years back in London in the 80s (going back to her roots apparently) and enrolled at London's Central School of Drama. When her studies were finished and her parents cut off her cash, she followed her father to California and decided to try her luck in Hollywood.Her mother now lives in Vancouver, B.C.Among her film credits are Best of the Best II (1993), Drop Zone (1994), Sensation (1994), The Outpost (1995), Sweepers (1998) and a small role in The Doors (1991).

Biography/Timeline

1970

Stansfield founded C&C California, a clothing line specialising in 1970s-style T-shirts, in partnership with Cheyann Benedict in 2002. C&C was acquired by Liz Claiborne in 2005.

1980

In the early 1980s, Stansfield was engaged to then boyfriend Simon LeBon, the lead singer of the band Duran Duran. While still with Stansfield, he wooed model Yasmin Parvaneh. Even as magazines speculated on a possible wedding with Stansfield, LeBon and Parvaneh married in 1985.

1990

Besides her role as "Alti" in Xena: Warrior Princess, Stansfield's other roles include "Sid" in two episodes of the cult TV series Twin Peaks and one episode as "Kristina" on the show Frasier. She played in one episode of the 1990s TV series The Flash as the humanoid android A.L.P.H.A. and she guest starred in the fifth X-Files episode during season 1. In 1998, she starred opposite Dolph Lundgren in the Angolan set film, Sweepers. The film was shot and partly produced in South Africa.

Stansfield directed The Lovely Leave in 1999, based on the short story of the same name by Dorothy Parker.
