Grammy Award-winning country and Tejano singer known for his crossover appeal in both the US and Mexico, epitomized by the Top 30 single "It's Not the End of the World." He died on May 16, 2016 of an apparent heart attack.
He attended Texas State University on a music scholarship in the early 1980s and started his career by playing with David Lee Garza y Los Musicales.
He won a Grammy in 2002 for the album Acuerdate and a Latin Grammy in 2007 for the album De Nuevo. In 2008, he was involved in two car accidents, the first of which put him in a medically induced coma.
He was survived by his second wife Maru, with whom he had two children. He'd previously had three children in his first marriage.
