Televangelist and preacher popular throughout the 1960s and '70s. He was known for his "faith healing," which allowed him to cure illnesses through "miracle water."
An accident in 1960 left his arm nearly severed. Rather than have it amputated he went to a nearby revival, where an evangelist reportedly healed it through faith.
His "miracle water" was found to contain potentially harmful bacteria, and he did not have a license to sell it, causing issues for his evangelism.
He was born in Greenwood, South Carolina, his mother W. M. Jenkins also a popular evangelist around Florida in the 1960s. He married Linda Harkins.
David Jeremiah, born about the same time as him, also was a popular televangelist.
