Israeli Politician who became the President of the Palestinian National Authority and the President of the State of Palestine in 2005. He is a member of the Fatah party, the largest faction of the confederated multi-party Palestine Liberation Organization.
He earned a law degree from the University of Damascus.
His title of President of the National Authority has been challenged since 2009, when his term was supposed to end.
He has three sons with long-time wife Amina Abbas.
