Richard Sands was born in Canandaigua, New York, United States. Richard and Robert Sands' father, Marvin, founded a humble wine business in 1945 at age 21.
That small operation has ballooned into a publicly traded behemoth now called Constellation Brands, which generates over $7 billion in annual revenue.
The company is known for its relentless streak of acquisitions. Subsidiaries include Robert Mondavi wine and Svedka Vodka.
Constellation also holds the rights to Grupo Modelo's U.S. beer business, including its Modelo and Corona labels.
The company reportedly sought to initiate the acquisition of Jack Daniel's maker Brown-Forman in 2017. The overture was rejected by the Brown family.

1983
First program Director at Live 105 (KITS-FM) in San Francisco. He began at the station as evening disc jockey when it was a Hot Hits formatted Top 40 station in 1983, eventually rising to the program Director position in 1985. He left the station in 1998, after it was merged with CBS co-owned KOME.
2002
He currently publishes The Sands Report, a weekly Alternative radio and record company industry newsletter which began in April 2002, after serving three years as Alternative Editor at Gavin Magazine.
