French Cartoonist most famous for his 1950s comic Le Petit Nicolas. His work has also appeared on the cover of The New Yorker more times than any other Artist.
After briefly serving in the Army, he relocated to Paris to study with the great Rene Goscinny, a French Cartoonist who taught him the innerworkings of the Business.
In 2002, a film was made about his life: Sempé, Rêver Pour Dessiner.
He was born in Bordeaux, France.
He and Francoise Mouly were among two of France's most famous cartoonists.
