Long established as one of the leading composers of brilliant contemporary orchestral scores for major BBC natural history programmes, including three David Attenborough series, Ben is now bringing his impressive cinematic style to drama productions. A classically trained pianist since the age of five, he has composed the music for more than 40 wildlife productions, including David Attenborough's Life In The Undergrowth, Life of Mammals and the 2008 series Life In Cold Blood. Other credits include The Nature Of Britain, Congo and the Making Waves strand of 8 'behind the scenes' programmes that accompanied The Blue Planet series.Ben composed the music for the shorts The Dreamer (Evolution Films) and Going Home (Shooting Gallery/Channel 4), both directed by Miquel Sapochnik; and The Tooth Faerie (HTV/South West Screen). He scored Space, directed by Tim Morgan for Central Television; Hell and Back, an animated short directed by Andrew Wheeler also for Central Television; and Music Monster, directed by Tia Perkins for Nickelodeon.He was nominated for an EMMY for his 007-influenced music for The Wildlife On One programme Operation Thunderball. He won Best Music Video Award at The Missoula International Wildlife Film Festival for his score for Natural Tracks; and a further award for Natural World -Transylvania at the Montana International Wildlife Film Festival.In addition to his large scale orchestral scoring, much of it featuring The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra, he created a unique ambient/dance score for the Fatal Flower, a film about orchids, the first time non-traditional music was used for natural history programming. For the award winning Natural Tracks series of 12 programmes he again broke new ground; his score being based entirely on sampled animal sounds. Shadows of the Sun was a 50 mins special commissioned as part of the 25th anniversary celebrations of the BBC's Natural History Unit achievements and featured time-lapse and slo-mo footage filmed around the world entirely set to music.Ben is closely involved with the world renowned Bristol band scene and, along with Geoff Barrow of Portishead and Scott Hendy of Boca 45, he has recently been working on the debut album for the much hyped new Bristol band - Malakai. He was also a co-writer and string arranger on the latest Boca 45 album, Vertigo Sounds.As a teenager he played in many bands before deciding to concentrate on composing. He studied music at Newcastle University and at Darmstadt in Germany before returning to university here and gaining a Masters Degree in Film and Television Music.

2012

In 2012 Salisbury composed the score for the documentary feature film Beyonce: Life Is But A Dream directed by Beyoncé - a behind the scenes look at the singer's life and music.

2014

Salisbury appears as co-writer, string arranger and musician on the Malachai album "Return To The Ugly Side" and The Beekeepers album "Apiculture". He also co-wrote the album "Drokk: Music Inspired By Mega City One" with Portishead's Geoff Barrow, and writes and records as one half of the duo Dolman with Scott Hendy. Dolman released their eponymous debut album on Inflection Point records in June 2014.

2019

Together with Geoff Barrow, he scored the feature film Ex Machina, Alex Garland’s directorial debut, released in the UK in January 2015. Salisbury and Barrow won the 2016 Ivor Novello award for Best Original Score for Ex Machina. The two teamed up again to score Garland's Annihilation (2018).
