Beverly D'Onofrio was born in Orient, New York in September 1950. She is best known for her best selling memoir Riding in Cars with Boys which was published in 1992. She also authored the memoirs Looking for Mary, or the Blessed Mother and Me in 2001 and Astonished, a Story of Evil, Blessings, Grace, and Solace in 2013. Beverly D'Onofrio has also authored the children's books Mary and the Mouse, the Mouse and Mary in 2007 and Thank You, Lucky Stars in 2008. Her essays have been published in The New York Times, The Village Voice, The Washing Post Sunday magazine, and the Los Angeles Times as well as in magazines including Cosmopolitan, Allure, O, The Oprah Magazine, and Marie Claire. She earned her MFA from Columbia University and has taught writing at both New York University and the University of Wyoming and later at Wilkes University.
