Guatemalan author and translator known for his books The Price of Escape and Life in the Damn Tropics.
He attended the University of Massachusetts-Amherst and later got his Master's degree from Columbia University.
Among his translations are work for the Guatemalan author Rigoberta Menchu and the poems of Nicanor Parra.
He married noted Artist Anne Gilman.
