Co-founder of the Motown singing quintet, The Temptations, who sang lead vocals on "The Way You Do The Things You Do" and "Just My Imagination."
He started The Temptations with his best friend, Paul Williams, who he met in a church choir in the late 1940s.
He had a successful solo career, with several singles becoming staples in the emerging disco scene, including "Keep on Truckin'," which became a #1 hit.
He was born in Union Springs, Alabama and was one of five children of Johnny and Lee Bell Kendrick.
He was at one point romantically interested in singer Diana Ross.
