Republican Politician who was a Senator from Minnesota from 1923 to 1947. During his tenure in the Senate he steadfastly supported American isolationism.
He was a dentist in his home state of Minnesota, and got involved in politics as the mayor of Glenwood in 1911, before taking the Senate seat in 1922.
Serving mostly during the period between WW I and II, he voted against America's entry in the League of Nations, and called for an end to reparations imposed on Germany.
He was born in Kandiyohi County, Minnesota.
