In August 2016, TV Line reported Kimrie would guest star in season 5 of the HULU comedy The Mindy Project.
Lewis was announced as a series regular in the ABC comedy pilot Single Parents, by Deadline in March 2018.
Kimrie Lewis was born in Los Angeles, the daughter of Carol, a news executive Producer, and william, a news sound Engineer and cameraman. She was raised in South Los Angeles. Her mother’s family is of African American origin. Her father’s ancestry includes African American and Native American. Through her father, she is the great-niece of jazz Bassist Charles Mingus.
