After performing in several Negro Ensemble Company (New York) stage productions, she made her television debut in a 1991 episode of Law & Order.
She reprised her Ally McBeal prosecutor character in a 2012 episode of the NBC series Harry's Law.
The daughter of a university professor and a primary school Teacher, she was raised in New York, New York and Gainesville, Florida.
She shared the screen with Samuel L. Jackson in the 1997 film Eve's Bayou.
