Dutch Director whose best known films include RoboCop (1987), Total Recall (1990), Starship Troopers (1997), and Basic Instinct (1992). RoboCop earned him a Saturn Award for Best Director.
He double majored in mathematics and physics at Leiden University.
His 2006 feature Black Book was nominated for a BAFTA Award for Best Film Not in the English Language.
He married Martine Verhoeven on April 7, 1967 and he has three children.
Screenwriter Edward Neumeier wrote the scripts for Verhoeven's hit films RoboCop and Starship Troopers.
