Hall of Fame outfielder and 24-time All-Star known as the "Say Hey Kid." He hit 660 home runs for the New York and San Francisco Giants and the New York Mets and was a 2-time National League MVP as well as a World Series Champion with the Giants in 1954.
He entered the majors as a special prospect and there was a race between the Dodgers, Giants, and Braves to sign him.
While his career at the plate was nothing short of spectacular, he was also a spectacle in the outfield, winning twelve Gold Gloves and making one of the most talked-about and celebrated catches in MLB history during the 1954 World Series.
He and his wife, Marghuerite Wendell Chapman, together adopted a son. They later divorced and he then married Mae Louise Allen in November 1971. They remain married until her death in 2013.
He was a good friend of Bobby Bonds and became the godfather to Barry Bonds.
