Leftist poet and publisher best known for "Sings Harry," "The Magpies," and "Arawata Bill." He was also the founder of Caxton Press.
He began reading at age six and went on to study at Canterbury College. Later, he served in the Royal New Zealand Navy during World War II.
His colorful life is the subject of Mr. Punch, a play by Roger Hall.
He wed Mary Granville in 1936; the pair had a son in 1945. Following his divorce from Granville, Glover lived with Khura Skelton before marrying Gladys Stevens Cameron.
He and Allen Curnow were both New Zealand-born poets.
