French Philosopher best remembered for his work on epistemology and the philosophy of science.
He graduated from the prestigious École Normale Supérieure in 1927. He studied Medicine while teaching in Toulouse.
He received the Sarton Medal from the History of Science Society in 1983.
He was born in the provincial town of Castelnaudary.
He and fellow Philosopher Pierre Bourdieu both studied at the École Normale Supérieure in Paris.
