Emmy Award-nominated Jennifer Bassey became a contract player on ABC TV's All My Children (1970) in the summer of 1998, after having portrayed borderline nymphomaniac "Marian Colby", since the early eighties. Jennifer was born in Chicago. Her first job in entertainment was as a singing Playboy bunny in the very first Playboy Club. She left her bunny ears behind and was accepted into the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, where she got the lowest entrance marks in the history of the academy. Three years later, she graduated from the RADA with honors, finishing just below classmate and future Academy Award-winner, Sir Anthony Hopkins. Jennifer went on to the Big Apple, where she appeared in several Broadway and off-Broadway productions. Some of which included Neil Simon's "California Suite"; "Not Now Darling", directed by George Abbott; "In Praise of Love" with Rex Harrison and "The Homecoming" (The Original Royal Shakespeare Production).Her most recent off-Broadway credits include Molière's "Tartuffe" and Wendy Wasserstein's "Isn't It Romantic", both staged at the Tribeca Playhouse. Prior off-Broadway appearances included playing "Katherine" in "The Taming of the Shrew" at the Roundabout Theatre; "Lady Macbeth" in "Macbeth" at the Stratford Theatre and "Love Letters", in which she co-starred with Ken Kercheval.In 1983, Miss Bassey won the role of "Marian Colby" on All My Children (1970), initially signing for a five-month stint. Due to the incredible popularity of the character, Marian is still going strong nearly 20 years later. 1971

Bassey has been married twice, she married attorney Roy F. Emery in 1971 until his death in 1991. In 2004 she married her longtime companion, Playwright Luther Davis until his death in 2008 at the age of 91. In November 2016 she became engaged to George Bamford in Waikiki, Hawaii.

1983

She began playing Marian Colby on ABC's soap opera All My Children (1983-1987, 1989, 1995-2009, 2011). She has appeared on All My Children for over 20 years and is a favorite among fans. She played a wealthy widow who became a real estate agent. Later, she was revealed to be the murderer of Zack Grayson. In 1999 she won, with cast member David Canary, the Soap Opera Digest Award as "Favorite Couple" then in 1998 she won the award as "Favorite Scene Stealer." In 1999 she was nominated for a Daytime Emmy as "Best Supporting Actress". Since 2003 Bassey has appeared on All My Children in a recurring capacity.

1988

Bassey also has appeared in a number of prime time television shows, include a recurring roles on Falcon Crest and Grey's Anatomy, and well as guest shots on In the Heat of the Night, Who's the Boss?, Murphy Brown, Matlock, L.A. Law, and Law & Order. Her film credits include Waxwork (1988), The Bonfire of the Vanities (1990), Dunston Checks In (1996), and 27 Dresses (2007).

1990

After appearing in Love of Life, The Edge of Night, and Somerset, Bassey changed her professional name from "Joan Bassie" to "Jennifer Bassey." She chose the name Jennifer from Dr. Jennifer Stark, the role she had played on Love of Life. In the early 1990s, Bassey was one of several actresses brought in briefly to replace Eileen Fulton as Lisa on As the World Turns while Fulton was ill.

2009

On May 22, 2009, Bassey returned to All My Children as Marian Chandler, but this time without David Canary's Stuart who was killed off at the beginning of the week. This marked Bassey's first appearance since her own husband died. Bassey's storyline, focused on her grieving the loss of Stuart, culminated in Marian attempting to shoot her husband's killer in court before suffering a mental breakdown. She left the series on August 7, 2009. Bassey made her final return to All My Children in 2011 for four episodes, during which her character was released from a mental institution and reunited with her presumed deceased husband.

2015

In June 2015, Bassey made headlines when she was forced off a commercial airliner after a dispute with a FLIGHT attendant.

2017

In 2017, Bassey joined the cast of ABC soap opera General Hospital playing Quinn Danvers.
