2009

After turning an episode of Memoirs of Manchild into the short film Mint in a Box (2009), in 2010, he wrote and directed the short film Successful Alcoholics, starring T.J. Miller and Lizzy Caplan. The film screened at the Sundance Film Festival, the SXSW Film Festival, the AFI Fest and 30 other film festivals.

2013

Vogt-Roberts's feature film debut, The Kings of Summer, was screened at the Sundance Film Festival and the Cleveland International Film Festival, and won the Narrative Feature Audience Award at the 2013 Dallas International Film Festival.

2014

Vogt-Roberts is directing a film based on the Metal Gear series, after reportedly starting talks with Sony Pictures in 2014. Jay Basu has been hired to write the script. In interviews, Vogt-Roberts had repeatedly expressed his passion for video games, and for the Metal Gear series in particular, and had previously met with Hideo Kojima to discuss the making of the film. In Kong: Skull Island, a boat bears the name Gray Fox after the character of the same name in Metal Gear, Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake and Metal Gear Solid. Vogt-Roberts explained how he invited potential screenplay Writers to his house to play several Metal Gear games, and noted the difficulty in keeping the game's tone for the film, as well as acknowledging the generally poor critical reception of previous film adaptations of video games.

2017

In December 19, 2017, pornographic Actress Dana DeArmond accused Vogt-Roberts and T.J. Miller of sexual harassment after filming for Comedy Central's Mash Up, alleging that Vogt-Roberts kissed her without her consent.
